Gulf Coast Doberman Rescue will be participating in the Barkus
Parade again this year. The Barkus organization generously shares the proceeds from the parade with tax exempt animal welfare groups who are able to provide volunteers for the event. Last year we had almost 20 volunteers thanks to some wonderful highschool kids from Country Day School in New Orleans. This year we are hoping to have even more volunteers as the money generated by this event is by far our largest fundraising opportunity.
Assuming things work as they did last year the Barkus Krewe needs an early shift for set-up, parade marshals and a late shift for take down. Additionally, I received word today that we may be able to walk a few of our adoptable dogs in the parade with no registration fee. We are asking you to participate in any way you can. If you cannot volunteer, but would like to join our group in the parade itself, we would love to have you.
The theme this year is Wizard of Pawz - There's No Place Like Home! What a wonderful tribute to New Orleans. I've heard there will be National Coverage of the parade this year and it will be bigger and better than ever. Please join us. You can costume your pet (and yourself) or they can come in their traditional furs - but please come. If you feel your dog may not be able to handle a dog parade but would like to walk one of our adoptable, please let us know. We have several very mellow guys who would enjoy the day.
We have created a link to the Barkus site so that you can learn more about it and register if you care to parade. Or feel free to email Terri Valenti at GCDR@bellsouth.net with any questions.
