"Thor" "Thor" is a 4 month old red male puppy. Although he seems to be thinking about serious things I can tell you he is "all puppy" and there is not a serious thought to be found in his little head. He was brought to us by one of our contacts who heard he needed help. Thor was surrendered by his previous owner to a vet for euthanasia because he was paralyzed in both rear legs. The vet didn't have the heart to put him down so quickly and took care of him until she could find help for him. GCDR agreed to have him examined by our vets. In the couple of days that it took to get him to us, Thor was already beginning to use his rear legs and walked under his own steam into our vet's office. He has continued to get better with every passing day. Although Thor's previous owner stated that Thor had not been injured, we noticed that Thor also was malnourished. Therefore, we are not sure if the report of "no injury" was truthful. Thor's xrays and medical records are being reviewed by a leading expert in Doberman back health. It is now believed that Thor does suffer from Wobblers Disease which unfortunately runs in the Doberman line. With medication and tender care, Thor is walking again and playing and doing puppy things. But if the tentative diagnosis is true, he will get worse again as Wobblers is a degenerative disease. We are presently trying to raise money to get Thor the expensive diagnostics that he needs to confirm or rule out Wobblers. If he is found to have Wobblers there are some medical options for him but they can be expensive. However, we think he is worth it. We hope you do too and that you will consider making a donation for Thor's medical needs so that he might have a chance to live a healthy life. Yes, we understand that this is a strangely named disease: Most Doberman owners are very familiar with it but if you have never heard of it, click on the icon to the right to see more info on Wobblers. Thor also came to us with very short cropped ears that were not entirely standing. We took him to see a vet in New Orleans who specializes in cropped ears. Due to his very young age, she posted his ears and we are hopeful that they will "stand" in a few weeks.
Foster Home Update: Thor gets along well with both other dogs and cats. He happily allows my Corgi to boss him around, so I see no potential for dog aggressive issues whatever. His temperament is easy going, but his energy is boundless. Right now he is running and playing and diving onto to our sofa in hopes that he can spend a few minutes with us rubbing his belly. He continues to grow like a weed (he is already as large as Jeannie), so I suspect that he will be A LOT of dog. He's a little slow on his house training, but again, I think it's just going to require a little extra time and effort. He really is a special boy. He just needs someone who has lots of time and attention with which to spoil him rotten. |

Scout Scout is a cute little 8 week old blue female Doberman Pinscher puppy. She was purchased from a backyard breeder. The family had another dog who needed emergency surgery and felt a little overwhelmed with Scout's skin issues and poor bone structure and decided to surr...ender her to rescue rather than have her returned to a breeder who was obviously not desirable in the first place. Scout has been to our vet. Her skin condition is on the mend and we believe she will look completely healthy in a few short weeks. Her slightly bowed legs were thought to be from poor nutrician and the vet feels that they will catch up as fast as her skin. All Scout really needs is good groceries and some TLC. Scout is a great puppy. Very smart - not shy at all. She keeps up with the big guys and dishes out heaping amounts of puppy energy. If you are interested in adopting this puppy puppy, please fill out an on-line application. She would be a great addition to a home with a cat due to her young age.
From Scout's Foster Mom Scout is doing quite well. It is amazing what good nutrition and exercise will do. Her skin condition is being resolved and will soon be history. She is crate trained and is doing very well with house manners. Scout is a quick study, very interested in pleasing her people. She is confident and curious. Active, Agile and Alert. Fully engaged in her world. She has a sweet disposition and beguiling charm. If you are in the market for a puppy, this could be the one.
