"BREEZY & PAXTON"

Breezy and Paxton live in Lake Charles & Houston together with their little big man canine brother.  Here is what their mom has to say about her canine family.

Breezy has been w/us for several months, she came from New Orleans and is a
Katrina dog.  She has fit right into our home.  She has 3 special
attributes; eating, sleeping and doing her best Dobe dance for treats.  Of
course, she also loves being petted and cuddled.

Paxton is my other GCDR Dobe, he's been w/us for almost two years and came
from roaming around a trailer park in Lake Charles, La.  He also has 3
special attributes, the first is being ALL dog, he's in intermediate agility
classes and LOVES it, and he REALLY stretches my creative and physical
abilities in order to keep up w/him.  He's been w/me since before Athena (my
first Dobe) went to the Bridge, and through Jessica (another GCDR Dobe who
went to the bridge).  Jessica loved him, Athena didn't think he was so
great, and Breezy puts up w/him.  The 1st week he was w/us, he gave Charles
(my husband) a black eye by running into him while he was putting a leash on
our Chihuahua - we don't bend over around him anymore!

The real boss in our house is Poncho, the Chihuahua - who has no qualms
about growling at Paxton to get him off a pillow.

"Daisy"

Daisy was taken to GCDR after a couple discovered that her "puppy phase" was too much for them to handle. We drove 4 hrs to Louisiana to pick her up because we absolutely fell in love with her pictures. She laid on our laps the whole drive back home and cuddled with us. Now that she is bigger it is harder for her to fit in our laps like she once did, only she doesn't think so. Daisy has the brightest personality that we have ever seen in a dog. She is full of life and always ready to play either with us or her big brother Rocky. Although she can be difficult with her 4 am potty breaks. She is a very smart dog and picked up speak, sit, shake hands and dead dog (where she lays on her back with her feet in the air) almost immediately. Daisy loves to go on walks and has made very good progress with her skills. She is more protective than her brother and is an excellent guard dog and once she gets to know you she will love you for life.

"Rocky"

My husband and I adopted Rocky from the Gulf Coast Doberman Rescue in September 2005.  Rocky now lives in Brandon, Mississippi with our other adopted doberman, Sierra.  We adopted Sierra from the Lauderdale County Humane Society.  Rocky and Sierra interests are laying on their dog beds while watching television.  At night we tell them it is time to go to bed and Rocky will get up and walk to the bedroom.  We are thoroughly enjoying having Rocky as part of our family.

"Xander"

Xander came into our lives in May, 2004.  He is a gentle, sometimes goofy, always good-natured, tall, lanky guy.  A real charmer as folks at the levee will attest.  He never meets a stranger.  He lingers with the line of admirers that suddenly find his head in their hands.  He enjoys daily romps down the levee where he wades into the river and stands quietly as if mesmerized by the water and the ships going by.  He was rescued from the LA/SPCA shelter and fostered to good health before he came to live with his sister Hildegard and his brother cats, Yin and Yang. With his canine male seniority, he has become the alpha-boy of the household, letting the rest of the family know that he’s in charge.  At least of the guys!

"Kayan"

Kayan adopted us in February, 2005. Sweet, mature, and reserved, she slipped into our lives easily and quietly, soon establishing herself as the alpha presence. (Have you ever met a female red dobie who didn’t?!) There is a nobility in Kayan, a wisdom, born of being tested and tempered by circumstances she made the best of and turned to gold. Kayan is our senior, our elder. We love and respect and cherish every moment we share with her.

"Hart"

Hart is as graceful in spirit as he is physically. Tall and lean, he strikes quite a pose on our walks. Hart is a survivor! If there is a nugget of food on the ground he vacuums it up before the rest of us got a glimpse. That’s probably how he survived on the streets after the storm. A survivor he is! And now he is embraced by the rainbow of love that was first expressed through the arms and hearts of his rescuers and ever since by his new family.

"Lila"

Lila is doing really well. She has such good energy and so much personality. She loves Eli, they are buddies now. We are using puppy pads for potty training and she is learning to go on those. I'm so proud of her. She is also extremely adventurous and very mischeivous. We have a hard time getting her back into the house now when we let her out. She loves to play and chew on leaves and sticks. So much so that if you try and grab her, she runs aways from you and typically makes a beeline for the crawl space under the house. Arrghh! She is ridiculously cute and super vocal. She lets us know when she's hungry, thirsty, tired, frustrated, happy, or mad at someone or something. It's been a lot of fun so far. We're really happy she's with us.

"Sierra"

I saw Sierra on your website in January of 2004 but she wasn't ready for adoption. I believe she was a "street walker" in the New Orleans area. She was frightened and abused. She was foster homed with a girl in Jackson, MS and "tried out" in a few different homes before I was able to get her. She was so timid that they thought she was going to be a "fear biter". She has never tried to bite anyone. A meeting was scheduled with Sierra, then Candy, and the GCDR volunteer in Gulfport, MS in June of 2004. I took my dobie Grettel with me for the "visit". Grettel and Sierra were instant friends and we came back to Fairhope with her. I remember the day very well. I let Sierra go in the back yard and she ran about 200 laps around the yard! Grettel looked up at me as if to say "What have we done?"!! Grettel showed Sierra how to use the doggie door and which end of the sofa she could have! With Grettel's help it took Sierra about 6 months to learn the words COME and STAY! She has blossomed into a sweet, obiedient beautiful Dobie. I lost Grettel to bone Cancer on December 27, 2005. Both Sierra and I were devastated. So, my hunt for a puppy began and I bought LUCY in January of 2006. Sierra accepted her from the get go and now they are best buddies. Sierra has told Lucy time and time again that most dogs don't live like this and Sierra knows first hand!! Lucy doesn't believe her!

"Nugget"

Nugget has found his forever home. Don't they make a nice looking family.

"Roux"

From Roux's Dad

I am writing you to tell you about Roux. He has become one of the family and has fit in just fine. He has filled out nice and now weighs 95 pounds and stands at mid thigh on me. I am 5’11”, so he is a big boy. I try to tell him that he is not a lap dog, but he refuses to agree with me as you can see him sitting on my girlfriend Karolena’s lap. In the picture is his girlfriend Emi. When he kisses her, his whole tongue covers her poor little head. It is hilarious. If you remember Roux from when he was up for adoption, you will remember that he used to try and have the neighbor’s chickens for breakfast. Well, he has not chased a chicken in quite sometime, although the squirrels tease him on a regular basis. It is quite funny to see him run the fenceline chasing the squirrels that run on top of the fence. I think the squirrels enjoy it as much as Roux. He has become my best friend and thank you for the services you provide to the community. Roux is such a great dog and now he has his family. Thanks, Mike .

"Onyx"

I adopted Onyx while I was in my first year in vet school at LSU. I've since graduated and I'm currently practicing in Phoenix, AZ at a private small animal/exotic clinic. Onyx is everything I ever wanted in a dog. I absolutely adore her. She goes to work with me when I'm on call at night, she goes hiking with me both here in the Valley and in northern Arizona, and she puts up with me and the animals that get brought home unconditionally. I also currently have two birds (a cockatiel and a quaker) and she couldn't possibly be any better with them. Buster the Quaker ( a 100g, three inch tall bird) loves to share Onyx's bones with her. I could never thank ya'll enough for the gift that Onyx has been for me. Thank you so much for everything that ya'll do for these guys.
